It was/is ME! 

This was the start of my study into communication. I had taken many professional development short courses, certificates, workshops and participated in 5 day dialogue training with the Institute for Healthcare Communication (IHC) and still I needed more! I attended the International Conference for Communication in Veterinary Medicine (ICCVM) in 2005 and I saw and heard, firsthand, research that was proving what I had only brushed up against.

For my role in veterinary medicine - I started to peek into the evidence that clearly showed that when we partnered with animal owners - animal care got better. What a win! And then to enter & emerge in adult education with a MA in Professional Communication (in my 40’s…gulp), things were really starting to come together. Combined with hours and hours of interactive practice and coaching - I was aiming for mastery….I”m still building that. Hence, the #StayNerdy - it means lifelong learning, endless pursuit of mastery. And doing so with the joy and delight of pursuing  something you like and that you’re good at.

Over a robust career in veterinary medicine, education, leadership and now entrepreneurship, I see and FEEL everyday the value of levelling up our skills. I love it!

Like any path to mastery and skill building - it takes learning, practice, failing, succeeding, reflecting then repeating it all as you continuously level up. We see the similarity when we think of a sport or art; practice individual skills, with drills, with coaching and then play the game and then do it over and over and over….To my knowledge, even the most prestigious athletes still go to practices!

Enter Dr. Cindy Adams, a true master of communication (please see her bio….)l I first saw Cindy at a Veterinary Conference in Ontario, very early in my career. She spoke of early research being done in communication and her belief and teaching focused on collaborating and partnering with clients and in doing that - evidence showed that medical outcomes got better; more compliance, better recovery rates, less medical mistakes. It was the first moment I got to thinking how important the role of a professional is - how powerful that is when interacting with clients who are scared, sad, frustrated or who feel a loss of control. To be honest, it was quite haunting. It started my trail to follow her research and learn from her when the opportunity presented itself; ICCVM, IHC and teaching veterinary students in Calgary. She has been my mentor and friend and was a strong influence on the completion my degree program. I am a forever fan and feel honoured to continue to work alongside her and to have the privilege of still learning from her.

So that’s how Dynamic Dialogue was created. I wanted there to be a way for Communication Enthusiasts (Nerds like me!) to level up their skills, to practice in a safe place, to collaborate in a setting that allowed for robust and energetic conversations.  We need this in any profession or any role where we interact with other bipeds! The side benefit is, when you keep building the skills, you gain competence, confidence and conversations that used to tire you, start to invigorate you.

 So if you’re in the state of mind - you attended previous programs, you have knowledge and want to keep building, refining and aiming for mastery - this is for YOU (and me too!).

 Dynamic Dialogue: Level UP! Two full days of concentrated betterment, refinement and study of communication skills. Building on previous knowledge, practicing the skills in a safe setting and collaborating with other Communication Nerds.
