Inspired by TEAM - Mobilizing RVTs.
I was so moved by this team’s response to attending our November, 2023, Mobilizing RVTs. What a gift to spend time with so many amazing veterinary professionals and hear their insights and ideas.
Thank you Kira, Sarah, Angelique, Jasmine and Dr. Amanda. Your thoughts and words mean so much and I thank you for sharing them.
Becky
“I am lucky to have a career working alongside brilliant, warm, highly skilled technicians. In our profession, I do not think their worth is recognized and their full participation is often not invited. When I heard about Becky Taylor’s course, Mobilizing RVTs, I knew I had to bring some of our team. I am lucky to work with like-minded leaders who also see the benefit to the profession to engage these minds and found us a budget to attend.
As a veterinarian and retired practice owner, I am passionate about elevating and integrating the practice of technicians, and I am working with veterinary leaders in their clinics to help them achieve this in a practical sense. To have the opportunity to witness the transformation this course has led to in our team members is invaluable. The team worked incredibly hard, grasped onto the curriculum, engaged in discussion, and practiced their new skills with determination and courage. They leave the intense course with new skills, new hope for their career path, and a new vigor to contribute to their practices and the profession. I am excited to see their success and the leadership they develop. I value the reinforcement and expansion of my communication skills and coaching training, and the detailed and practical discussions regarding financial and regulatory aspects involved in mobilized technician integration.
Becky is a powerhouse and fiercely passionate, a wealth of knowledge and skill, an encouraging mentor, and a new friend. I thank Matt, Kim, Lee, and the wonderful corporation we work with for allowing this investment in us, our practices, NVA, and the profession.”
Dr. Amanda (Team Leader)
“I honestly don't have the words to express this opportunity and course. It was inspiring and refreshing to see a group of strangers all wanting to move in the same direction. No one trying to find the flaws or poke holes in the theory, just a group of strong people wanting to better themselves and the industry. This would have been a game changer for me 10yrs ago!
I am very passionate about the experience for the client and pet, and the communication skills and strategies learned in this course can take that to a new level. It is about engaging the client to be part of the team to care for their pet. It has also helped as a manager explaining things to the team. I am notorious for trying to help people by feeding them answers and information in the hopes that it answers the question that they can't get out or find the words to say. Learning to pause and use open ended questions to gain information, and not answers, but sometimes learn that they don't have the answers is empowering. I love open-ended questions. But it was usually to gain information about how a person was feeling or viewing a situation. But I never thought to use that to deescalate a situation or help an owner understand something, provide information. I have already used these questions, and having clients and team members, tell me what they know about something that is upsetting or bothering them. Close the computer screen, take notes and check in during long conversations really impacts the quality of it. I haven't yet mastered the empathy statements, but being able to think of them in my head before responding has already helped with clients. Listening, helping people try their way, celebrating the success or being able to help them realize "maybe I don't have all the answers" has been something I use daily. There were so many pieces of the puzzle that I already knew of and were using in some way shape or form, but I didn't have the skill to put them all together. It is a challenge to now listen to other people engage in conversations with clients and not jump in with a solution to fix but instead let them learn from experience and observation.
For Ancaster, this will be a change to clients who have come to expect the in-and-out service and how we can improve our quality of care outside of the medicine. “

“This was a mind-blowing experience. It was quite challenging and I honestly feel like I have grown and enhanced my skills. The learning environment was non-judgemental and thought-provoking. I met some amazing individuals working in veterinary medicine. All the speakers who presented each had their own insights as well as love for what they were speaking about, which in turn gave me the confidence to go forth with new knowledge. Thank you for investing in me. I truly feel honoured that I was selected for this training and to train my fellow colleagues that they can do it too. I will use my newly refined skills to provide the best patient care and client experience moving forward. This is just the beginning!”
Angelique, Mobilized RVT.
“I just want to thank you for allowing us to have this experience. It was incredible to sit in a room with so many other people with the same level of passion and love for this profession, and make new lifelong friends. Even in the past 3 days being back to work, I’ve found my communication skills have improved significantly and I’ve been able to have conversations with clients better than I ever thought possible. I’m so excited to get started with this process, develop better relationships with clients and their pets, and hopefully be a part of helping other people have this same experience. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Sarah, Mobilized RVT.
“Thank you, Dr. Amanda, Kim, and Matt, for making this amazing opportunity happen. I am so honoured that you believe in me and are willing to support me through this new journey in vet medicine. Without you this wouldn’t be possible, and I’m so excited to grow and expand my passion so that we can provide even better care for our patients, our clients, and improve our whole team. The skills I’ve learned here are truly invaluable, not just for my career in vet medicine but in all aspects of my live, and an experience I will forever be grateful for. In the words of Becky Taylor, let’s be change makers and disrupters! Thank you again, and looking forward to everything the future has in store.”
