Five full days of highly interactive learning and coaching designed and delivered to build communication skills, optimizing the profile and responsibilities of Registered Veterinary Technologists/Technicians in BOVINE or mixed animal practice. This is more than continuing education, it’s a solid business investment. For RVTs only.
Day 1:
We start the entire experience diving into the core dialogue skills and their application to managing appointments with clients. This is the foundation that all conversations are based upon.
What we’ll dive into Day 1.
Introduction of 6 core dialogue skills,
practical applications to build skills within a bovine VCPR, wellness or consult appointment, ,
introduction of strategies to structuring an appointment and building a communication model.
Day 2:
Introduction to commonly used technology and data collection and shared decision making between the producer, veterinarian an RVT. Follow up of data collection and history taken to the DVM for recommendations and further planning. Review of clinical procedures and animal handling.

review of medical record requirements.
Day 3:
Review of vaccine & deworming protocols, collecting accurate history and working with DVMs to build appropriate protocols for producers.
Review of Day 2,
common vaccine protocols and important disease discussion,
common deworming protocols and important parasite prevention,
overview of biosecurity measures,
development and maintenance of VCPR.

Day 4:
This is where attendees get to practice what they have learned, get in the moment dialogue coaching, practice an appointment with a simulated client and give & receive peer coaching. This is the highest level of communication learning.

Review of Day 3,
completion of 1 simulated appointment,
observe and give coaching in five other simulations,
practice the skills.
Day 5:
The final day and the summary of our learning. Introduction to the business side of veterinary medicine and the positive financial impact of Mobilized RVTs and Integration Services offered by BSCS. Review of the legislation and being part of a self regulated profession as an RVT and discussion of VCPR in bovine & mixed animal practice..

Review of Day 4,
introduction to the financial impact of Mobilizing RVTs,
review and overview of current legislation regarding RVTs working directly with producers,
introduction to Integration Services offered by BS Communication Strategies,
wrap up and continued learning.

Speakers
Becky Taylor, RVT, MA
Becky Taylor has been dedicated to her career as a Registered Veterinary Technologist for over 25years. In that time, she has worked in mixed animal practice, in education, and in corporate veterinary medicine. She has participated in hundreds of CE opportunities, sat on many national and provincial boards and considers herself a lifelong learner. A pinnacle of this learning was in 2016, when Becky completed a Master of Arts in Professional Communication through Royal Roads University. Her final project was authoring a paper on the role of RVT’s with clients and resulted in the creation of a communication model for RVT’s.
Becky shares her life with husband, Colin, and their 2 children, Nick and Maddy as well as many fur friends. Her passion outside of family and work is her horses and she can be found spending lots of her free time developing her skills in horsemanship as well as being with her herd of 4! She has recently partnered with a friend to create another cool side biz, The Horsewoman’s Club.
Marissa Lemay Account Manager, Livestock Monitoring
As a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) with a passion for the livestock industry, Marissa brings a wealth of experience in feedlot cattle medicine to the table. Graduating from Olds College in 2019, Marissa has pursued a career dedicated to the care and well-being of beef cattle, particularly in feedlot and cow/calf production systems. Passionate about the future of agriculture and beef production, Marissa is dedicated to leveraging emerging technologies to elevate animal welfare and industry standards. Marissa joined Merck Animal Health in August 2023, and specializes in integration of technology within the beef production industry. Marissa has worked closely alongside veterinarians and producers alike to implement cutting-edge technologies, such as data collection and analytic software, and herd health monitoring systems. Beyond her professional endeavors, Marissa is deeply involved in her community, volunteering her time to promote and share the story of the beef industry with the public. Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in the beef industry, Marissa looks forward to continuing her journey of service and innovation, striving to improve the lives of animals, supporting the veterinary community, and enriching the communities she serves.
Dr. Natasha Kutryk
Dr. Natasha Kutryk is a Senior Specialist in Scientific Marketing Affairs for a pharmeceutical company. Most recently she practised as a Feedlot Consultant for Telus Agriculture and Consumer Goods. Prior to consulting she was a mixed animal veterinarian in Alberta and Saskatchewan and practised large animal medicine in England and New Zealand. Natasha has served on the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association Council since 2020 and was most recently the ABVMA’s President. She obtained her DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan. When not working, she farms with her husband in North Eastern Alberta.
